Dr. Onimi Wilcox
Dr. Onimi Wilcox joins Lee College as the Dean of Academic Studies. Prior to coming to Lee College, she served as the Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Prairie View A&M University in Texas for 13 years. She chaired and served on various university-wide and college committees. She is also a member of the inaugural class of PVAMU Leadership Development and brings with her more than 16 years of higher education administration experiences.
Dr. Wilcox received her bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism. She earned her M.A. degree in Mass Communications and Ph.D. degree in human communications studies from Howard University. Some of her areas of teaching are communication theory, interpersonal communication, speech, intercultural communication, advertising, journalism, organizational communication, research, corporate strategy, business communication, and public relations.
She has attended and presented her research at various national and international conferences. She has served as a reviewer, written articles, and co-edited articles in a recently published book. She has collaborated on research with colleagues in other disciplines and was a Co-PI on a three-year Minority Science Improvement (MSEIP) grant from National Science Foundation.
Dr. Wilcox has worked in the following capacities:
A Project Manager/ Broadband Circuit Design Engineer at Qwest Communications in Arlington, Va.; Chair of Communications Dept. at Trinity College in Washington, D.C.; Assistant Professor at Bowie State University in Maryland; and Director of Development and Training at WICS. She has also taught as an adjunct professor at George Mason University in Va., Houston Community College, Lone Star College, and University of Phoenix. She is student-centered and teaches courses both at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Outside of academia and professional interests, Dr. Wilcox travels widely and is active in a variety of non-profit organizations.
