Dr. Donetta Suchon
Dr. Donetta Suchon has been employed at Lee College since 1992. She has served as Dean of Academic Studies and Dean/Vice President of Student Affairs.
For eleven years she served on the state Distance Learning Advisory Committee (DLAC) that implemented the Virtual College of Texas (VCT). This organization received the Star Award for exceptional contributions to Texas Higher Education.
During her tenure on DLAC, she chaired the committee during VCT’s initial regional accreditation. Another initiative, Baytown Area Education Recruitment and Retention, more commonly known as BAER2 , improved articulation for students aspiring to be teachers. Current initiatives, beginning in 2009, include a Visual and Performing Arts Advisory Council and a P-16 Council for East Harris, Liberty, and Chambers counties. She is member of the core team for the Achieving the Dream grant and serves on numerous campus committees.
Before coming to Lee College, Dr. Suchon worked at Daytona Beach Community College (FL) for more than twelve years, where she began as an instructor and publications advisor and was promoted to Department Chairperson, Dean, and Associate Vice President. During her career, she directed student activities at Odessa (TX) College and was the Educational Services Coordinator for the National Association of Campus Activities (SC). She has taught technical writing as an adjunct professor at several universities.
Dr. Suchon earned her bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from Kansas State University with a concentration in English, her master’s degree in Journalism and Communications from the University of Florida, and her doctorate in College Student Personnel Administration from the University of Northern Colorado.
