State Rep. Mary Ann Perez will deliver the keynote address during the Lee College commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 10, in the Sports Arena.
Perez recently completed her first term representing House District 144, which includes Baytown, Deer Park, Houston, Pasadena, South Houston and other areas in southeastern Harris County. Within the legislature, she is a member of the Economic and Small Business Development, International Trade and Intergovernmental Affairs and Rules and Resolutions committees.
A graduate of Milby High School, Perez worked her way through college at the University of Houston-Downtown to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. She went on to build a successful insurance agency while raising two sons and remaining active in the community, serving as president of the Meadow Creek Civic Association from 2006-09.
In 2009, Perez was elected chairwoman of the Houston Community College (HCC) Board of Trustees, where she worked to develop programs geared toward improving student retention rates, hosted an annual job fair at the HCC Southeast campus, and partnered with HEB to provide free flu shots to the community.
Lee College will hold commencement exercises at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., with more than 150 students expected to participate in each ceremony. A live stream of the event will be accessible via the college website, and DVD recordings of the program will also be available for purchase.
