Course Title: Torts and Personal Injury Law

Course Rationale:

Tort law (wrongful injuries to persons’ persons or their property) is one of the oldest and most basic areas of law. Paralegals must have an understanding of the basic principles of tort law.

Learning Objectives:

Define and properly use terminology relating to tort law; locate, describe, and analyze sources of law relating to tort law; describe the role and ethical obligations of the paralegal in tort law; and draft documents commonly used in tort law.

Specific Tasks Accomplished:

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to accomplish the following tasks:

  1. Define and properly use terminology relating to tort law.
  2. Locate, describe, and analyze sources of law relating to tort law.
  3. Describe the role and ethical obligations of the paralegal in tort law.
  4. Draft documents commonly used in tort law.
