Catalog Description: This course presents the fundamental concepts of criminal law from arrest to final disposition, principles of federal and state law, and the role of the paralegal in the preparation of pleadings and motions.

Course Title: Criminal Law and Procedure
Course Rationale:
Students planning to work in criminal defense firms or elsewhere in the
criminal justice system (prosecutor’s office, court clerk) will benefit from
this course.
Learning Objectives:
Define and properly use terminology relating to criminal law; describe
sources of law relating to criminal law; locate and analyze cases and statutes relating to
criminal law; describe the
role and ethical obligations of the paralegal relating to criminal law; and draft
documents commonly used in criminal law.
Specific Tasks Accomplished:
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to accomplish the
following tasks:

- Describe sources of law relating to criminal law.
- Locate and analyze cases and statutes relating to criminal law.
