EnergyVenture Camp is an intensive 36-hour energy career orientation summer camp for young people 12 years old and up with an annual reunion/reconnection program each year until college and connection to the job market. EnergyVenture is a replicable, scalable, sustainable workforce and economic development strategy for the Texas Gulf Coast.
EnergyVenture Camp exists to introduce young people to careers in the energy industry, increase awareness regarding the good-paying jobs in the petrochemical and refining industry, and improve the image of energy industries.
Because of the critical shortage of skilled workers in the Texas Gulf Coast, as well as in other states along the coast, industries and states are competing against each other for scarce talent. The strategy of paying more money to attract incumbent workers from competitors drives up the cost of talent and doesn’t increase the labor pool. Developing a sufficient labor pool over the next 10 years to address retirements and industry expansions is critical. Texas Gulf Coast industries must be able to attract and retain talent in order to maintain economic vitality.
Camps are held during the summer on the Lee College main campus.
Partners: Numerous colleges, companies, associations and economic development and government agencies.
