WelcomeThe mission of the ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Program is to prepare non-native-speakers to better participate in English-speaking college and technical-vocational settings. We exist to help people achieve better grades, better jobs, and better futures through improved English language skills.
ACADEMIC PREPARATION Upon completion of the ESOL program, students will be prepared to read college-level textbooks, write essays and research papers, make oral presentations, and participate in classroom discussions. WORKFORCE TRAINING With an emphasis on real-life applications for English, employees who complete the ESOL program will be prepared to read job manuals and safety procedures, write reports, and communicate with co-workers in an industrial environment. CURRICULUM Lee College ESOL works in cooperation with the Baytown Adult Learning Center to provide a full range of classes from beginner to advanced. The ESOL program provides students with the opportunity to strengthen their English listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills at the same time that they take college classes to reach their educational and career goals. Placement testing measures each student’s level of listening, speaking, reading, and writing to help find the best classes so that students take only those classes that they need. STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES The Lee College Counseling Center has Spanish-speaking counselors available for students and parents. The Writing Center provides one-on-one tutoring, computers, and printers to help ESOL students with reading and writing assignments. |
