"History not used is nothing, for all intellectual life is action, like practical life, and if you don't use the stuff-well, it might as well be dead."

In tribute to his more than 40 years in education, Lee College endowed an Honors Program chair named for Mr. Britt.  For more than four decades he has taken historical facts and figures from rhetoric to reality through teaching the importance of history and its impact on the world today.

Since 1964, teaching and helping students has been his passion and he is often described by his students and colleagues as a devoted, caring instructor and a tireless supporter of Lee College.

Through his leadership, students in the Honors Program have received numerous regional and national awards and many have presented academic research and papers at the Texas State Historical Association, East Texas Historical Association, the Great Plains Honors Conference and the National Conference on Undergraduate Research.  Britt serves on the board of directors for the Texas State Historical Association (TSHA) and is the co-managing editor of Touchstone, the TSHA's undergraduate journal.  He is also a member of the Chambers County Historical Commission and is on the board of the Friends of the Eddie V. Gray Wetlands Center.

With Professor Britt's guidance and support, a number of these students have completed advanced degrees from prestigious universities across the United States and in other countries.
