Achieving the Dream – Increasing Student Outcomes through Peer Coaching
As an Achieving the Dream Leader College, Lee College will teach effective practices to two other peer colleges through a robust ‘peer coaching’ model that accelerates the transfer of knowledge and strategies for student success and completion from college to college. Funded by the Texas Guaranteed (TG) Student Loan Corporation, the project is designed to accelerate the transfer of effective practices from college to college with the long-term goal of positively impacting sustainable student outcome gains in Texas. The $10,000 grant ends in July, 2013.
Educational Opportunity Center (EOC)
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, the goal of EOC is to increase the number of adult participants who enroll in post-secondary education institutions. The center offers participants counseling on financial aid options and assists participants in the application process. All services are offered free of charge. The $1.15 million dollar grant ($230,000 each year) ends August 31, 2016.
Student Support Services (SSS)
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, this program offers intensive support services including tutoring, mentoring, and counseling to students who are at risk for failure. The grant is $220,000 each year for five years. Funds are awarded to provide opportunities for academic development, assist students with basic college requirements, and to motivate students toward the successful completion of their post-secondary education. The grant ends August 31, 2015.
Hispanic Serving Institutions – Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (H.S.I. STEM)
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, the purpose of the H.S.I. STEM grant is to expand and enhance educational opportunities for and improve the academic attainment of Hispanic students. The goals of this grant are to increase the number of Hispanic and other low income students attaining degrees in fields of science, technology, engineering or mathematics, and to develop model transfer and articulations agreements between 2-year Hispanic-serving institutions and 4-year institutions in such fields. The $4.1 million grant ends September 30, 2016.
GC PASS – Gulf Coast Partners in Student Success
Sponsored by Houston Endowment and University of Texas at Austin, this project is partnership grant with Goose Creek CISD. The goals are 1) to increase college readiness among high school graduates, easing the transition for graduates to community college in the Gulf Coast region; 2) to increase student success in community college developmental courses. This three year, $600,000 award is to be used to target student groups that traditionally have faced significant barriers to success, including students of color and low-income students. The grant ends on December 31, 2014.
National Texas Coastal Management/Galveston Bay Foundation – sub recipient – $40,000
This project is in partnership between Lee College and the University of Houston-Clear Lake. The project allows undergraduate research opportunities for Lee students with upper division students and faculty at UHCL. These opportunities are critical for science students in community college programs to compete successfully for spots in university programs when they transfer, and to build skills necessary for employment within the sciences. The $40,000 sub recipient grant ends on April 30, 2014.
National Science Foundation – Advanced Technical Education – Workshops for Physics
The funding provides 3-day intensive workshops over a period of three years for physics faculty at community colleges and high schools. The 2012 award amount is approximately $270.000. The grant ends April 30, 2013.
National Texas Coastal Management/Galveston Bay Foundation
The project will provide undergraduate research opportunities for our students, and allow for collaborative opportunities with upper division students and faculty at UHCL. These opportunities are critical for science students in community college programs to compete successfully for spots in university programs when they transfer, and to build skills necessary for employment within the sciences. The $37,892 grant starts October 1, 2014, and ends April 30, 2014.
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board – Perkins
Annually, the Perkins grant provides support services such as childcare assistance, textbook lending, and tutoring. to low income students with technical majors. The 2012 award amount is $315,674 The grant also funds some equipment for technical programs. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board – Nursing Shortage Reduction Program – Under 70% Graduation rate
This award is one of three state programs designed o increase the number of nursing graduates in college and university programs that have under a 70% graduation rate. The $161,955 grant ends November 1, 2012.
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board – Nursing Shortage Reduction Program
This state program aims to increase the numbers of RN licensure graduates from colleges and universities. The $51,742 grant can be used for retention, recruitment and faculty development. The grant ends November 1, 2012.
Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board – Nursing Innovation Grant Program (NIGP)
The NIGP program provides funding to improve the identification and tracking of at-risk nursing students. The grant award is $89,808 over a two year period, and funding ends May 31, 2013.
State Comptroller’s JET Equipment Program
The Jobs and Education for Texans program funded by the State Comptroller’s Office is a competitive grant to purchase essential equipment in order to train students (both degree and certificate) for high demand occupations. Funds are being used to purchase equipment for electrical technology program. The $314,943 grant ends May 30, 2013.
U.S Department of Labor – Community Based Job Training project for Nursing and Allied Health (CBJT)
San Jacinto is the fiscal agent for the Gulf Coast Petrochemical Information Network (GC-PIN) collaborative initiative. Funding will be provided for simulation equipment, curriculum development and a persistence counselor in the nursing department. The 3-year sub-award for Lee is $915,052. The grant ends June 30, 2013.
U.S. Department of Labor – Community Based Job Training project for the Petrochemical Industry (CBJT)
In collaborative efforts to address the training needs of the petrochemical industry, Lee College is partnering with Brazosport, San Jacinto, and College of the Mainland to provide crafts and skills training, to purchase equipment, and to offer new programs. The partnering institutions include Brazosport, College of the Mainland, and San Jacinto. The 3-year, $2.3 million grant ends December 31, 2012.
U.S. Department of Labor – Petrochemical Job Training Grant
This three year grant funded by the U.S. Department of Labor is collaborative project among regional community colleges, with San Jacinto College as fiscal agent. The total grant award is $4.7 million; the sub award for Lee is $1.2 million. Funding will provide enhancements to the Instrumentation and Fieldbus programs, including equipment in these areas. The $1.1 million grant ends February 28, 2013.
Texas Workforce Commission – Skills Development Grant for Small Businesses
The Texas Workforce Commission grant funding is a training grant for open enrollment classes designed for small businesses with 99 or less employees. The $70,000 award started in January, 2011, and will conclude June, 2013.
Texas Workforce Commission – College Credit for Heroes
The purpose of these funds is to provide programming to ensure veterans have the services they need to succeed in college and to shorten the time to complete a degree or certificate. The $302,589 grant award ends September 30, 2012.
Small Business Development Center (SBDC)
SBDC provides businesses with one-on-one consulting and information assistance to foster economic growth in the community. Working with existing companies and start-up firms, the Lee College SBDC functions in association with the University of Houston, U.S. Small Business Administration, and the area Chambers of Commerce.
Houston Endowment – Performing Arts Center Grant
Houston Endowment awarded $232,000 grant for the Lee College Performing Arts Center to be used for operating costs related to audience development initiatives. The funding will also contribute to the revitalization of downtown Baytown. The grant ends August, 2013.
