Upgrade Status Report
Sp 2008 - January

See attached High-Level Project Tasks and Phases

Primary Lee College Contact: Dr. Carolyn Lightfoot, CIO

Last update: January, 2008

Description: This project will implement a major upgrade of Oracle's product from Student Administration Version 8.0 to Campus Solutions Version 9.0. This will include upgraded functionality for Human Resource Management including Employee Records Management, Benefits, Payroll, and Employee Self-Service. It will also include updated functionality for Student Records Administration, Academic Advising, Campus Community, Admissions, Financial Aid, Student Financials, and Student Self-Service.

Outcome: The HRMS/SIS system will be running the new release with applicable Lee College customizations reapplied. Additionally, with this upgrade, Lee College will deploy a new design for student self service functionality.

Milestones and status: The PeopleSoft upgrade project has been underway since Fall 2007.  The development and analysis work began with version 8.0. Technical work began on the 9.0 effort in August, 2007, following Oracle's release of the 9.0 upgrade scripts.  Beginning in January 2008, the Student and HRMS functional teams and technical teams will work on the fit/gap analysis and will submit requests for development projects to satisfy critical gaps.  Development and testing will continue through May, 2008.

Benefits:
Lee College will gain several functional benefits from version 9.0, primarily in the academic advising and back office areas. Many enhancements will extend existing capabilities and reduce administrative overhead. We will also see enhancements in the Student Self-Service area.

General benefits of 9.0 include:

  • Lee College software will remain compliant with federal and state regulations for financial aid and tax processing.

  • The upgrade provides the first benefits of a new service-oriented architecture.

  • The upgrade provides enhancements to the PeopleSoft development toolset and underlying technologies.

  • The upgrade positions the application for future releases of Fusion middleware.

  • The upgrade provides Oracle XML Publisher capabilities.

The primary benefit for Lee College of going to release 9.0 is that it stabilizes the environment.  It will be 2012 -2013 before another major upgrade is required.  This will allow functional and technical resources to focus on other priority initiatives once this upgrade is complete.
At the February 2006 meeting of the PeopleSoft Steering Committee the group discussed the Higher Education Users Group (HEUG) Conference and Project FUSION. It was decided by the team that we would implement Campus Solutions 9.0 when it is released for production and not to implement 8.9. Oracle provides an upgrade path from 9.0 to FUSION.
We also discussed the FUSION document that covers many of the common questions that were raised by HEUG members as PeopleSoft moves towards FUSION. Oracle extended our current Campus Solutions 8.0 SP1 patches and fix support date to August, 2008. The first release of a Campus Solutions/Student Admin product on the FUSION architecture is scheduled for the year 2010.
