Why is Lee College upgrading its Oracle/PeopleSoft system?
Product support from Oracle Corporation for PeopleSoft 8.0 (Lee College current version) ends in August 2008.  As of that date Oracle will no longer provide critical regulatory, legislative, and tax updates for PeopleSoft 8.x implementations. Purpose:  To align Lee College’s PeopleSoft system with the current release and to ensure ongoing Oracle support, a project to upgrade from PeopleSoft version 8.0 to version 9.0 is being undertaken.  New enhanced functionality also comes with this upgrade (see benefits below). A significant amount of resources have been dedicated to accomplishing the upgrade.  A great deal of work has had to be completed in a short period of time mainly by the technical team. The timeline to implement release 9.0 is very tight.

Benefits: Lee College will gain several functional benefits from version 9.0, primarily in the academic advising areas. Many enhancements will extend existing capabilities and reduce administrative overhead. We will also see enhancements in the Student Self-Service area.  Enhanced ability to create and manage ad hoc groups of student or employee data within the application -- Increased options for automatic communication generation -- from formal letters to applicants to e-mail notifications for enrollment appointments -- Restructured user navigation and an easier, more intuitive user interface -- New online features that use commercial Web site-like tools to simplify academic processes, such as a course scheduling "shopping cart" -- Increased insight for students, faculty and advisors to help them make more informed, proactive academic decisions.   We plan to leverage the Enrollment Backpack feature that will help students and their advisors build academic roadmaps that will allow them to track their progress toward degree requirements. This feature will also help Lee college understand future course demand thereby greatly improving curriculum planning.
PeopleSoft Enterprise Campus Solutions 9.0 also allows institutions to configure features to meet unique, continually changing institutional requirements without costly customizations.  For example, in the financial aid area the application allows administrators to easily post external awards for financial aid without having to customize the software.  In addition, students can log on to manage their financial accounts, including miscellaneous fees, external awards, enrollment in payment plans and lender selection. This functionality provides control, access and flexibility for students, while eliminating manual processes and reducing administrative overhead.  PeopleSoft Enterprise Campus Solutions 9.0 to take advantage of new features designed to help enhance student services and provide students, faculty and advisors with advanced self-service functionality.

Project Description:  This project will implement a major upgrade of Oracle's product from Student Administration Version 8.0 to Campus Solutions Version 9.0. This will include upgraded functionality for Human Resource Management including Employee Records Management, Benefits, Payroll, and Employee Self-Service.  It will also include updated functionality for Student Records Administration, Academic Advising, Campus Community, Admissions, Financial Aid, Student Financials, and Student Self-Service.  August, 2008, is the target date for the first major upgrade of the PeopleSoft Student Administration software that is core to the Student Information and Human Resource Management Systems (SIS and HRMS) since 8.0. This upgrade will include enhanced functionality for Student Records Administration, Academic Advising, Campus Community, Admissions, Financial Aid, Student Financials and Student Self-Service. It will also include updated functionality for Employee Records Management, Benefits, Payroll, and Employee Self-Service.

The Campus Readiness Liaisons will work directly with the upgrade project team to identify specific changes that impact users and ensure that the changes are documented and communicated. Demo sessions will be held in the weeks leading up to the upgrade to familiarize users with the changes, and online training materials will be provided. Information will also be shared in regular steering committee meetings and on the web site and campus publications.  Training sessions are also in the works for the entire team and functional users.
Users are encouraged to check the Oracle/Peoplesoft website frequently regarding the system and the upgrade.

From the Oracle Upgrade Lab Installations...Delivery Statement

We install and configure the PeopleSoft database, PeopleSoft application server, PeopleSoft batch server, and the PeopleSoft Internet Architecture (PIA).  We are available for subsequent install related questions on a limited basis via email and/or phone for two weeks after our visit. The specific details pertaining to the delivered Installation service are listed below.  We do not install on Hardware/Software combinations that have not been certified by PeopleSoft and supported by the Global Support Center (GSC).

During our engagement, we cannot display all functionality and features for every application; instead, we will focus on, the core architecture.  For example, some advanced features of PeopleSoft product lines require considerable planning and configuration.  Accordingly, the configuration of advanced features is not included within the scope of the installation and configuration services.
