Persistent Links - Galenet

Using Persistent Links is a good way for faculty and librarians to set-up online reading lists by linking directly to articles in periodical  databases.  Galenet supports persistent links by copying the URL code directly into your web page in combination with the Library's authentication URL.  Articles that are available for persistent linking are identified by Gale's InfoMark .

Licensing restrictions and copyright law require that persistent links to articles in subscription databases use authentication for access.  This means that students and faculty will need a validated Library I.D.   If you want to link specific article URLs on your course page, follow the instructions below that allow a student (including those off-campus) to access these resources.

Note:  Authentication codes are needed in combination with the specific article URL.  Click here to see the authentication code and the list of Galenet databases the support persistent links.

Directions:

1. Go to the Lee College Library Database page
2. Select the database that you want to search and is listed as supporting Persistent Links
• Example:
  Health & Wellness Resource Center
3. Find the article that you want to include in your reading list
4. Click on the article title to bring up its unique record
5. Highlight the entire URL for this article and save it so that you can paste it later.

6. The unique part of this URL that you need as the link to this article is after the / servlet. To post this URL on your course page, you must insert this code http://0-galenet.galegroup.com.halos.halan.lib.tx.us/ in front of the servlet code so that students can be authenticated through the library's system.
