Library Goals &
2003-2004 Report Card
Library Goal 3: Establish new and improve current library services
using student surveys, other patron feedback and staff identification.
College Goal: We will identify, develop, and
implement measures of academic excellence and institutional effectiveness
and evaluate the progress of the institution’s achievement of its
goals and strategic objectives.
Target was partially met. Objective 1 still shows too many areas
of service not used by students, and Objective 4 on professional circulation
responsibilities was not completed.

Action Taken |
Continuous Improvement |
Objective 1: Conduct
and implement marketing plan by focusing marketing efforts on previous
survey results. |
Student survey was refined and distributed through the Institutional
Research office. Questions related to distance learning and off-campus
access were included. Procedures were established for utilizing
an “e-mail alert” for faculty/campus. Library banner
identifies all e-mails. Library staff hosted a “Jewels of
the Library” booth and student government sponsored Fall
Festival. We signed interested students up for netLibrary accounts
and other library services. Marketed library services using TexShare’s
campaign materials and made sure that the Erma Wood Carlson Library
was a search result on major search engines. Participated in department
orientations when invited.
|
Continue to look at results of student survey and faculty satisfaction
survey. If results are not desirable, staff can place feature articles
about services in student paper, continue to participate in student
sponsored events, attend student government meetings asking them
to be library liaisons, host workshops for faculty about library
services and the need for faculty to serve as library liaisons. Because
faculty attitudes toward library services and use directly impact
student usage, conduct faculty library use study to determine if/how/why
faculty use/do not use library services. Librarians can attend division
chair meetings regarding services and “lack of student awareness”.
Implement instructional objectives pre/post tests to measure if instructional
objectives are being taught. |
| Objective 2: Reevaluate library web page using standard web design
criteria including ease of use, ADA compliance, etc. |
Library web page was completely redesigned with attention to user
accessibility and web page maneuvering. |
Add electronic suggestion box to web page, purchase digital camera
for using with web page so that images as well as instructions can
be kept up-to-date on page. |
| Objective 3: Identify all areas of major responsibility with updated
procedural manuals. Include access information, passwords, etc. |
Procedural manuals are continually updated. |
Complete the updating of all procedure manuals. |
| Objective 4: Spend a minimum of two hours on the circulation desk
to learn basic circulation procedures well enough to serve as a back
up when necessary. |
The purpose of this objective is to ensure that professional personnel
are able to handle the circulation desk in an emergency. This was
not done in 2003-04. |
Complete this objective or replace it. |
