2003-2004 Report Card

Library Goal 4: Improve library services to distance learners and adjunct faculty. 

College Goal: We will improve the recruitment, retention, and achievement of all students, particularly disadvantaged and high-risk students.

Target was partially met.  The online tutorial was not completed and Objectives 7 and 8 were not met.

Objective Action Taken Continuous Improvement

Objective 1: Work with Distance Education committee in formalizing procedures for the development of DE courses / online courses that include the incorporation of library services as a staple of all courses offered.

Report was submitted to instructional deans and other administrators about common DL practices in local well-established programs. Suggestions were made for standardizing practices and training. Procedures were established for identifying all new faculty and students teaching or taking distance learning classes to send them information about library services. Worked with Web Master to include the library’s web page on all dl course pages.

On 11-11-04, the following e-mail was sent to faculty teaching distance learning classes Fall 2004:

Dear WebCT Faculty Practitioner: I am trying to follow up on the use of the Library’s redesigned web page. One point of interest we would like to track is whether faculty members who teach WebCT courses include a hyperlink to the Library’s Homepage on their WebCT page(s).

A reply as follows would be most helpful:

  1. Yes, there is a link on my WebCT page (s).
  2. NO there is not a link on my WebCT page (s).
  3. When I revise my page(s) I will consider including a link to the library’s homepage.
Objective 2: Create Library Services page specifically for faculty and their interests. Include instructions for accessing services. A series of library pages was added to the library website labeled for faculty. Review pages with fewer hits to see if they still contain necessary information.
Objective 3: Reevaluate library Distance Learning page in anticipation of providing fluid supportive access to remote users. Include instructions for accessing services. All objectives completed except the online tutorial and pages are up and available with additional information. Faculty are able to access pages that specifically address their needs. They can request instruction, ILL, remote access all online. We also support e-reference and have a toll-free number for assisting our patrons.  
Objective 4: Develop online tutorial either from scratch or by incorporating elements from developed program such as TILT. All objectives completed except the online tutorial and pages are up and available with additional information. Faculty are able to access pages that specifically address their needs. They can request instruction, ILL, remote access all online. We also support e-reference and have a toll-free number for assisting our patrons.  
Objective 5: Develop Virtual Library Tour for mounting on library page. All objectives completed except the online tutorial and pages are up and available with additional information. Faculty are able to access pages that specifically address their needs. They can request instruction, ILL, remote access all online. We also support e-reference and have a toll-free number for assisting our patrons. Tutorial completed by December 2004.
Objective 6: Develop additional html Library Resource Guides to mount on library page. Library resource guides are available for allied health, business, chemical elements, English 1301, history, How to Cite Electronic Resources, Library of Congress classification system, literary criticism, Speech 1315, and welding. Review pages with fewer hits to see if they still contain necessary information
Objective 7: Work with Instructional design staff to create a template for the creation of course supportive webliographies of library resources. Work is not complete on Objective 7.  
Objective 8: Work with instructors in designing webliographies that support their courses. Work is not complete on Objective 8.
