Jazz and the Blues
Learn more about jazz and the blues, two music genres that have majorly impacted the entire musical world. With roots in African folk music, slave songs, and influence from American cities like New Orleans, Saint Louis, and Chicago, modern jazz and blues have a rich cultural heritage.
Featured Biography: Scott Joplin
A pioneer of the ragtime movement, Scott Joplin was a gifted pianist, singer, and composer. One of his earliest works, “The Maple Leaf”, sold almost half a million copies between 1899 and 1909, bringing ragtime to the masses.
