Charge/Purpose
The Library Advisory Committee is to serve in an advisory capacity
to support the Library program within the educational philosophy of
the college. Furthermore, committee members are to serve as advocates
on behalf of library services and programs. More specifically, the
committee shall:
- Act as a liaison between the faculty, administration, and student
body and the library program.
- Act in an advisory capacity to the Library Director on interpretation
of policy and library management.
- Assess and make suggestions for the integration of the library
program and its services within the instructional programs of the
institution.
- Encourage the use of all library collections and facilities as
well as services.
- Recommend solutions to library problems relating to faculty and
student needs and usage.
- Inform campus divisions and units of library functions, operations,
and activities, including Library Advisory Committee meetings.
- Assist in long-range planning of the library program.
- Assess the adequacy of library materials and services for new curriculum
offerings.
- Serve as active partners in collection development by
- making collection requests
- reviewing selection slips when sent to divisions
- making recommendations to Library Director concerning the appropriateness
of holdings, i.e. censorship considerations, outdated materials,
weeding, etc.
