| The Mathematics Department
at Lee College offers a comprehensive curriculum to meet the needs of
students with diverse skill levels and goals. The department offers
developmental mathematics courses for
students who need to work on basic skills and algebra to prepare for
a better job, a technical certificate, or college-level mathematics. The
department provides a Mathematics Lab located in
Bonner Hall 113 to assist students in their coursework. The department
offers college-level
mathematics for students majoring
in a variety of fields such as business, computer science, elementary
and secondary education, medicine, biological and physical sciences,
and engineering. These courses will satisfy the mathematics requirements
for an associate degree and are designed to transfer to a university. Lee
College offers an Associate of Science in
Math/Physics/Pre-Engineering.
Developmental Mathematics
Developmental Mathematics courses are designed to provide students with
basic skills needed to achieve success in college-level courses and to
fulfill the Texas Success Initiative
(TSI) standards. Among the courses
offered to promote success are MATH 310 (Basic Mathematics), MATH 315 (Pre-Algebra),
MATH 320 (Introductory Algebra), and MATH 330 (Intermediate Algebra). Via
small classes and personalized attention, students can overcome their basic
skills deficits in mathematics. These courses carry institutional credit
but do not transfer. Instructional
formats vary and may include computer-assisted, self-paced, lecture, and
online offerings. Students must be assessed to determine placement. Once
placed in a course, many support services are provided to enable students
to succeed. Among the services are the Math Lab, video tapes of lectures,
and one-on-one tutoring. |
