Dr. Lynda Villanueva is Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs at Brazosport College, a two-time Aspen Top Ten Finalist. She is an Aspen Presidential Fellow, a Data Coach for Achieving the Dream, and a board member for the Brazoria County Boys and Girls Club.
Dr. Villanueva believes that a strong campus culture is built around valuing everyone’s individual contributions and caring for their well-being, and she strives to model this belief in all of her roles on campus and in the community. As a leader, Dr. Villanueva builds high-performing teams based upon trust and transparency, driven by data and core values. Her strongest core value is success for all students.
She oversees academic and student affairs, including a thriving dual-credit program that comprises a quarter of Brazosport College’s students. This past year, in collaboration with all school district partners, she led the creation of the Catalyst Program, an innovative tuition-free dual-credit cohort model that results in the completion of an associate’s degree in Process Operations or Instrumentation Technology. At a broader level, Dr. Villanueva has built sustainable partnerships with the petrochemical, health care, and construction industries developing the talent that regional employers require and providing good jobs for students. She serves as the Liaison Officer to both the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges. For nearly a decade, she has coached six different Achieving the Dream colleges, including a Historically Black College, an Aspen Top Ten Finalist and Leah Meyer Austin Award Winner, and two Leader Colleges of Distinction. Dr. Villanueva has a passion for teaching and has taught psychology at the University of Houston since 2003.
Dr. Villanueva holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Colorado State University, a Master of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Houston, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of Houston.
Dr. Villanueva is married to William Davidson. They have two children: Sarah, 18, and Jaden, 10. Their favorite family activities include hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park and spending time with their dogs.
