Educational Opportunity Center

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education. Goal is to increase the number of adult participants who enroll in postsecondary education institutions. The center offers participants counseling on financial aid options and assists participants in the application process. All services are offered free of charge.

Small Business Development (SBDC)

Provides businesses with one-on-one consulting and information assistance to foster economic growth in the community. Working with existing companies and start-up firms, the Lee College SBDC functions in association with the University of Houston, U.S. Small Business Administration, and the area Chambers of Commerce.

Special Populations

Our purpose is to assist low-income students with particular barriers to enroll in and successfully complete their courses at Lee College. We work especially with technical/vocational students who may experience difficulty due to economic levels, students with disabilities, or those for whom English is a second language.

College Connection

College Connection’s objective is to build awareness among high school seniors of the importance of a college education.  College Connection staff hope to increase the college-going rates of high school seniors by guaranteeing all seniors admission to Lee College, and by providing free pre-college services including financial aid information and college readiness testing.  The program is funded by a $88,596 grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Title V

Lee College’s Department of Education Title V grant is helping the college increase student progress to graduation and transfer over a period of five years.  The $2.2 million dollar grant has allowed the college to establish a Student Success Center and improve its developmental education courses.  The project also includes initiatives to improve the quality of student data and data analysis. Achieving the Dream

A generous grant from Houston Endowment allowed Lee College and several other Houston-Galveston Metropolitan area colleges join this national initiative to improve student success.  Lee College’s project includes improving awareness of and access to existing student services, enhancing student success in developmental and “gatekeeper” courses, and providing faculty with learner-centered professional development.  The five year grant totals $450,000.  To learn more, download the Success Counts brochure (pdf) and to stay updated download the DataNotes (pdf). Gulf Coast Petrochemical Information Network

Through a $374,164 grant from the Texas Workforce Commission, Lee College is leading a coalition of educational institutions, economic development organizations, manufacturing associations, and industry partners to improve communication among all groups concerning the availability of training and education in the Texas Gulf Coast region.  The project includes dissemination of training opportunities, a hiring forecast survey, fast-track training for dislocated workers, and summer career orientation programs for high school seniors. Skills Development Fund Project – DuPont

Lee College partnered with DuPont for a Skills Development Fund grant for $226,645.  This grant funded the training for 325 DuPont employees in a broad range of disciplines and levels (22 different areas of training) including:  operators, maintenance crafts, supervisors, clerical, engineers.  Incumbent workers receive training in one or more of three general areas:  increased productivity/cross-training, leadership/supervision training and safety training. Skills Development Fund Project –CMEF

Lee College partnered with the Construction Education Maintenance Foundation (CMEF) and 22 of its member contractors for a Skills Development Fund grant for $780,279.  This grant provides funding for 785 of the business partner employees to receive welding, pipefitting, millwright, instrumentation, and electrical training and certifications.  Call Debi Jordan at 281-425-6453 for further information.

Performing Arts Center Challenge Grant

Houston Endowment has issued a $250,000 challenge grant for the Lee College Performing Arts Center Setting the Stage for Excellence Campaign.  Houston Endowment will match dollar raised between November 2007 and September 2008, up to $250,000.  The Setting the Stage for Excellence Campaign is raising funds for the integrated sound and lighting systems for the new Performing Arts Center.
