Lee College is nearing completion of the process for reaffirmation of accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). This web site offers a brief overview of the SACS self-study process and a timeline for completion.

The Commission on Colleges (COC) of SACS is the regional accrediting body for postsecondary institutions representing eleven US Southern states. SACS is one of six private voluntary nonprofit accreditation associations. The Commission on Colleges is the representative body of the College Delegate Assembly and is charged with carrying out the accreditation process.

The accreditation process for higher education is one that promotes standards and qualifications for postsecondary institutions in order maintain high standards in higher education; to better serve students within these institutions; and maintain equality among institutions to enhance transferability of credit.   Voluntary, yet essential, this process allows each institution to evaluate its effectiveness while promoting student learning.

For more information on SACS, consult their website at http://www.sacscoc.org. In particular, the document Principles of Accreditation gives specific information on the process.
