Setting the Stage for Excellence

Overview

Construction is underway for a new 57,900 square foot Performing Arts Center, the first ever for Lee College.

“Our community of Baytown needs and deserves a first-class facility for the performing arts. Lee College is the best possible host for the center.”
Wayne Gray, Chairman
Lee College Board of Regents

Baytown offers the community a rich heritage of performance arts, with a symphony, a community chorus, a black box theatre that have been in the area for more than 40 years. Even with this theatrical and musical heritage, amenities for the performing arts have not kept pace with other facilities at Lee College and in Baytown. From east of downtown Houston to Beaumont, there is no venue that provides musicians and actors accurate acoustics, a fly loft for setting dramatic scenes, or lighting appropriate to a wide variety of artistic performances. The
Baytown Symphony Orchestra has an annual performance for all fifth graders in the Goose Creek district. These 1,400 fifth graders, just an age where they might have the opportunity to participate in music classes, hear the instruments in a basketball arena, not a concert hall. There are no national touring companies and no special concerts in East Harris County, because there are no facilities to host these culturally enriching events.
The new Performing Arts Center will be the signature facility at the college and will be used by the community more than any other building on campus. It will become a center of cultural and artistic activities and a forum for the exchange of ideas in our three-county service area. With your help, Lee College is poised to lead the way into a new era of excellence for the performing arts in Baytown and surrounding communities.
