The discipline of history is an honest attempt to understand the human condition through time. As students and historians undertake the task of answering the who, what, how, and why of the past, there will be significant disagreements; history is an inexact, unquantifiable discipline imbued with mystery and begging discovery. Nonetheless, without a sense of the past, humanity is on a voyage without a compass. As intelligent beings, it is imperative that we use the past to better understand the present and recognize what is attainable in the future.
