Course Title: Architectural Drafting – Residential
Course Rationale:
This purpose of this course is to utilize basic drafting skills to perform
architectural drafting procedures, practices, and symbols, including preparation
of detailed working drawings for residential structure with emphasis on light
frame construction methods. This is an intermediate level drafting elective
necessary for completion of the Associate of Applied Science in Drafting
Technology.
Learning Objectives:
Demonstrate a general understanding of architectural terms, symbols, use of
residential construction materials and processes, and knowledge of reference
materials; demonstrate the ability to produce a set of residential construction
drawings to include: site plan, floor plan, elevations, wall sections,
schedules, details, and foundation plan.
Specific Tasks Accomplished:
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to accomplish the
following competencies:
- Letter using an architectural style of lettering.
- Illustrate architectural drawing line standards.
- Develop a standard site or plot plan drawing.
- Utilize architectural standards of design in the construction and layout
of a floor plan for a typical residence.
- Place and accurately dimension floor plans using standard architectural
dimensioning techniques for dimensioning both inside and outside.
- Develop foundation plan and details.
- Utilize architectural standards of design as applied to exterior
elevations. Construct front, left, and rear view elevations. Use rendering
techniques for elevation aesthetics.
- Identify and use standard architectural electrical symbols for typical
residence.
- Develop a typical wall section, study HVAC and plumbing requirements for
a typical residence.
- Develop interior elevations.
