Course Title: Technical Algebra
Course Rationale:
To prepare students for basic algebraic calculations encountered in
technical professions. Students will be required to solve and/or manipulate
equations for solutions regardless of their technical major. After graduation,
the graduate often must take employment tests requiring fundamental math
knowledge. Whether on the job or at home, mathematical calculations abound.
Learning Objectives:
Solve linear equations; solve equation sets with multiple unknowns; solve
quadratic applications and technical word problems; and multiply and divide
variables by exponent manipulation.
Specific Tasks Accomplished:
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Add, subtract, multiply and divide signed numbers
- Recognize and define algebraic terms
- Define algebraic expressions
- Add and subtract algebraic terms and expressions
- Multiply algebraic terms and expressions
- Divide algebraic terms and expressions
- Solve single variable equations
- Solve stated word problems containing a single variable
- Solve quadratic equations
- Solve stated word problems containing quadratics
- Solve simultaneous equations
- Manipulate exponents, roots, & radicals
