Course Title: Process Technology III- Operations

Course Rationale:

This course is to provide an adult learner with the opportunity to work in a self-directed work team, operate a complex distillation system, collect and analyze data, start-stop process equipment, follow and write operational procedures. The course is the capstone experience which allows the learner to apply class room skills to real life operational activities.

Learning Objectives:

Combine systems into operating processes; describe a process technician's role during plant operations; write operating procedures; and demonstrate application of operating procedures. 

Specific Tasks Accomplished:

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Combine systems into operational processes.
  2. Describe Process Technician’s role during plant operations.
  3. Write operating procedures.
  4. Demonstrate application of operating procedures.
  5. Qualify and operate a process unit.
  6. Draw Simple Process Flow Diagrams of Distillation Unit
  7. List Basic Equipment & Instrumentation Descriptions
  8. Complete Line-Tracing and Initial Training
  9. Complete Basic Equipment and Flows Assessment Exam
  10. Work in Team Assignments by Initial Assessment Ranking
  11. Complete Team Assignments
    1. Draw Team Drawing of Off-Spec System
    2. Draw Team Drawing of Distillation Skid
    3. Draw Pre-heat system
    4. Write Start-up procedures
    5. Write and develop a team check-list
