Course Title: Theatre Arts Lab I

Instructional Goals and Purposes:

Lee College’s instructional goals include:

1. creating an academic atmosphere in which students may develop their intellects and skills and
2. providing courses so students may receive a certificate/an associate degree or transfer to a senior institution that offers baccalaureate degrees.

General Course Objectives:

Theatre Arts Lab I is designed for beginning theatre students. This course is the study and application of a practicum in theatre with emphasis in performance techniques, design techniques, and general theatre procedures. This class requires involvement in all current semester productions. The course is intended to expose students to basic theatre principles and practices, to practical problem solving and critical thinking, to world literature, and to reinforce an appreciation for the craft.

Specific Course Objectives:

1. To introduce students to the performance, practice and theory of performing on the stage.
2. To increase the student’s understanding, critical awareness, and enjoyment of stage performance.
3. To acquire basics skill necessary for the theatre process.

Course Content:

Students will be required to do the following:

1. Attend class lectures and participate in class discussions and exercises.
2. Complete all graded assignments, quizzes, tests, and exams.
3. Attend and review all theatre department productions.
4. Read various plays assigned in class.
5. Attend all called rehearsals and performances.
6. Your attendance at each rehearsal and performance is the single greatest predictor of success.
7. Student attendance at every called rehearsal or performance is expected.

9. Students may also be required to read and research topics in theatre.

Methods of Instruction/Course Format/Delivery:

Faculty may choose from but are not limited to the following methods of instruction: lecture, discussion, Internet, video, television, demonstrations, field trips, collaboration, and readings.

Assessment:

Faculty may assign both in- and out-of-class activities to evaluate students’ knowledge and abilities. Faculty may choose from the following methods:

Course Grade:

Grading will be based on the successful completion of all of the above course requirements and in combination with a careful review of your development in your work with the following percentages:
