Catalog Description: Reading and interpreting working drawings. Includes symbols and abbreviations and the use of sketching techniques to create isometric and orthographic drawings of piping and piping components.

Course Title: Basic Blueprint Reading for Pipefitter and Plumber
Course Rationale:
This course will introduce the student to the basic drawings used in the
pipefitting trade.
Learning Objectives:
The student will read and interpret drawings; and demonstrate sketching
techniques for isometric and multiview drawings of piping components.
Specific Tasks Accomplished:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
- Explain the items included in drawings, i.e. title block, scales, piping
symbols and abbreviations. (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11)
- Explain the various types of drawings, such as, plot plans, structural
drawings, elevation drawings, as-built drawings, equipment drawings, P&ID’s,
isometric drawings, spool sheets, and detail sheets. (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11)
- Explain the various piping systems including chemical, compressed air,
fuel oil, steam, and water. (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11)
- Describe the various types of pipe hangers and supports and how to
interpret pipe support drawings and symbols. (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11)
Grading Policy:
The semester grade will be determined by the accumulated average scores
received on all written examinations and performance profiles.
