Catalog Description: Mathematical operations necessary to calculate laying lengths of pipe fittings for fabrication. Identification and use of hand tools and power tools. Identification of pipe, pipe fittings, flanges, and fasteners used in the trade.

Course Title: Introduction to Pipefitting
Course Rationale:
The course is designed to introduce the student to the basic skills used in
the pipefitting trade.
Learning Objectives:
The student will apply mathematical calculations applicable to pipefitting
installations; demonstrate safe use of hand tools and power tools; and identify
materials used in pipefitting.
Specific Tasks Accomplished:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
- Demonstrate the ability to use pipe vises, stands, pipe wrenches, levels,
pipe fabrication tools, and pipe bending and flaring tools.

- Demonstrate the ability to use pipefitting tools used to cut and prepare
pipe for fabrication. (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11)
- Demonstrate the ability to identify and use various pipe fittings used in
threaded pipe fabrication, as well as use the appropriate threading tools on
pipe used in threaded pipe fabrication. (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11)
- Identify safety hazards, and utilize ladders and scaffolds for their
appropriate uses. (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11)
- Explain the applications, proper used and safety considerations for using
engine driven generators, welding machines, air compressors, pumps, forklift
trucks and hydraulic cranes. (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11)
- Explain properties and classifications of soils, sloping requirements,
excavation support systems and backfilling requirements in safe excavations.

- Explain the use of underground pipe fittings and the joining methods used
with different types of pipe and describe the storage and handling

Grading Policy:
The semester grade will be determined by the accumulated average scores
received on all written examinations and performance profiles.
Numeric averages convert to letter grades as follows:
