Course Title: Pipe Practices

Course Rationale:

An advanced level student will perform pre-test and post test requirements; service and repair valves as needed; identify, install and troubleshoot steam traps; and identify, install and test in-line specialties.

Learning Objectives:

The student will perform pre-test requirements; service and repair valves as needed; perform post-test requirements on various types of piping and plumbing apparatus; identify, install, and troubleshoot steam traps; and identify, install, and test in-line specialties.

Specific Tasks Accomplished:

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  1. Explain the different types of NDE testing including the potential hazards. (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11)
  2. Identify and explain how to install steam traps, including mechanical thermostatic, and thermodynamic steam traps as well as strainers. (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11)
  3. Demonstrate the installation, removal and internal maintenance of threaded and flanged valves. (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11)
  4. Identify in-line specialties, and explain the handling, storage and potential hazards. (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11)

Grading Policy:

The semester grade will be determined by the accumulated average scores received on all written examinations and performance profiles.

Numeric averages convert to letter grades as follows:

93-100 A
86-92 B
79-85 C
70-78 D
Below 70 F
