INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOLOGY Psychology is a widely varied area of study because it deals with an intricate subject matter - human behavior and mental processes. Consequently, there are many different sub-fields in psychology. The Introduction to Psychology course surveys these various sub-fields and exposes students to their major concepts and research findings. Since psychology is both a basic and an applied science, students enrolled in the course should not only acquire knowledge of the course content but also be able to evaluate that content and use it for the betterment of themselves and society. They should gain an appreciation for the cultural and gender diversity in human behavior, the capacity to use psychological principles in the maintenance of personal health and well-being, and understand that human behaviors are complex, almost always caused by multiple factors, and seldom explained in a simple matter.
