Other Course Supplies

A graphing calculator is allowed on homework, quizzes, and exams. Most exam questions require you to show all of your work, so do not rely too heavily on the calculator. You may also want a 3-ring notebook, pencils, and erasers for this course. You do not need blue books or scantrons for exams.

Testing

All exams are pencil/paper and will be taken in the Testing Center located within the Counseling Center in Moler Hall. You will have two days during which you may schedule your exam. You should check the Testing Center's schedule to find a time that will work for you, and then contact the Testing Center at 281-425-6384 to make an appointment. You should allow at least two hours to take the exam. You will need to bring a photo ID to the Testing Center. You may use a calculator and scratch paper, but no notes. If you use scratch paper, number the problems and attach it to your test. You must show you work on the test or on the scratch paper to receive credit. The Testing Center requires you to turn off your cell phone.

If you are unable to take the exam during the two-day time period scheduled, you may take it on the third day with a 5-point penalty. Please contact the instructor if you are unable to take the exam during any of the scheduled times or if you need to take an exam early. Your instructor will work with you to make other arrangements.

After the testing period has ended, you will be able to pick up your test and a copy of the solutions outside of the instructor's office (ATC304). You are encouraged to pick up your test as you will need it to prepare for any makeup/retest and the final exam.

Late Work, Makeups/Retests, and Extra Credit

This course is NOT self-paced. Homework assignments and quizzes will be available for at least one week before they are due. You may do the work anytime before the due date, but no late work will be accepted. If you miss an exam, you may make it up during the last week of the semester. You can only make up one exam. If you do not miss any exam, you may choose to retake an exam during the last week of the semester. You can only retake one exam and only if you did not miss an exam. If you choose to retake an exam, the new grade will replace the original grade, even if it is lower than the original grade.

There are Extra Credit Test Reviews available for each exam. Each review is composed of three quizzes which cover the material on the exam. If you score 80% or better overall on the three quizzes, you will earn 3 points of extra credit on the exam.

Each student is required to take the comprehensive final exam. If you have no more than one missed homework assignment or quiz, you may replace your lowest chapter exam grade with your final exam grade if it is better. The instructor will track your completion rates and automatically replace the grade if you qualify for that option.

Learning Activities

When doing homework online, you will have access to the ebook, video clips, and the following options which are accessed through the homework exercises.

Lee College students also have free access to on-campus tutoring in the Math Lab (Bonner Hall, room 113), and instructional videos through MathTV.

Disability Services

Students with a documented physical, emotional, or learning disability may arrange accommodations only through the Disability Services Office in the Counseling Center at Lee College. The instructor will work with this office to ensure that your needs are met.

Activity and Drops

Regular course activity is crucial to your success. Students who quit participating in the class and do not drop will receive a grade of "F" for the course. It is your responsibility to drop the class if you decide not to complete it. Before dropping any class, carefully read the "Six-drop Rule."

Six-Drop Rule

Anyone who entered a Texas public college or university during or after Fall 2007 as a first-time college student is subject to a law that limits the number of drops he or she is allowed in certain circumstances at all state-funded Texas institutions of higher education. After six "unexcused" drops from credit classes (including those from other schools), the student will not be allowed to drop any course after the census date of a semester and will receive a grade that will affect his or her GPA. However, some situations will be considered "excused," including the following: severe illness of the student; student responsibility for care of a sick, injured or needy person; death of a family member or someone with whom the student has a close relationship; active duty in the military of the student, a student's family member, or a person with whom the student has a close relationship; and a change in the student's work schedule that is beyond his or her control. Documentation of any of these reasons may be required. The law allows the college to determine other "good causes” for dropping a class, and a student whose drop is deemed "unexcused" may appeal that decision. If you have specific concerns about the law, please meet with a college counselor.
