Registered Sex Offenders

  PDF this page

The Federal Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act (CSCPA) of 2000 provides special requirements relating to registration and community notification for sex offenders and requires states to obtain information about enrollment or employment of registered sex offenders at institutions of higher education. This information is to be provided to campus police departments.

Information on registered sex offenders at Lee College is held with the Security Office. At the beginning of each semester, sex offenders who are students or employees of the college are required to present identifying information to our security office. The Security Office inputs the information in the Texas Department of Public Safety Registry database. The act does not require Lee College to gather the information or make inquiries of students, prospective students, employees, or applicants for employment.

The CSCPA further amends the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1774 (FERPA) to clarify that nothing in the Act can prohibit an educational institution from disclosing information provided to the institution concerning registered sex offenders.

More information about the CSCPA can be found on the US Department of Education website. A list of all registered sex offenders in Texas is available from the Texas Department of Public Safety Sex Offender website.
