Summer is moving fast, but there’s still time to make the most of it at Lee College’s annual Kids at College program. Families can still join one of our area’s favorite summer traditions, but spots are filling quickly.
Kids at College is designed for students from preschool through 12th grade and features dozens of hands-on summer camps in areas ranging from arts and crafts to science, engineering, sports, and special interests. The program gives students opportunities to explore new subjects and participate in interactive learning experiences throughout the summer.
This year’s program features four major camp categories:
- Arts & Crafts
- Science & Engineering
- Special Interest
- Sports Camps
Campers can explore everything from cyber security, STEM activities, art and music to cosmetology, fashion fun, and paranormal camps. Popular returning favorites include Mad Scientist, Lego, Clay Creations, basketball and volleyball camps, as well as specialty experiences like Heroes in partnership with the Baytown Animal Shelter and Hero Skills: Emergency Response.
Each class is led by experienced instructors who have successfully passed background checks and provide interactive, age-appropriate learning experiences that keep students engaged while encouraging creativity, teamwork, and personal growth.
One of the program’s greatest strengths is the wide range of opportunities available for all ages and interests. Parents of younger children especially appreciate the opportunity to enroll students who may not yet qualify for many traditional summer programs.
Savannah, whose son attended Kindergarten Camp last summer, said the program helped prepare him for school in a meaningful way.
“He came home every day telling me how brave he was ready to be,” she said. “He was prepared with the knowledge and structure to listen to his teacher, and that was very beneficial for him.”
Stories like hers reflect the impact Kids at College continues to have across the community.
“These stories capture the heart of what we do: creating joyful, meaningful, and affordable learning experiences for children and families in our community,” said Marsha Tuha, executive director, Lee College Workforce and Community Development. “Great things can happen when you believe in the power of learning through fun.”
To help keep the camps accessible for families, all campers receive free lunch thanks to partnerships with Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District and Liberty Independent School District. Scholarships are available for qualifying families, and sibling discounts are also offered.
Kids at College also continues expanding opportunities throughout the region, including programs offered at the Lee College Education Center – South Liberty County.
