What Can You Expect During Tutoring?

Tutoring is a conversation and a collaboration. Bring your course materials, questions,
and goals, and your tutor will work alongside you as you explore ideas, practice skills,
and guide you to expand your understanding of the course material.

During your session, you and your tutor may:

Writing Center

The Writing Center provides support for writing assignments in any course at Lee College. Whether you're brainstorming ideas, organizing a paper, revising a draft, or polishing a final submission, writing tutors can work with you at every stage of the writing process. Writing Center sessions are collaborative. Your tutor will listen to your goals, ask questions, and offer feedback to help you make decisions about your writing. Your ideas and voice remain at the center of the process.

Writing tutors support students with:

• Understanding assignment requirements
• Brainstorming and developing ideas
• Organizing and strengthening your writing
• Paragraph development and thesis statements
• Grammar and sentence-level concerns
• MLA and APA formatting
• Works Cited pages and citations

To fit your schedule and learning preferences, the Writing Center offers three types of support:

• Face-to-Face Sessions — Meet with a writing tutor on campus for personalized feedback and guidance.
• Online Chat Sessions — Connect with a writing tutor remotely for a live, interactive session.
• Online Essay/Paper Submission — Submit your writing project online, and receive personalized written feedback from a writing tutor. Include your assignment instructions, goals, and any specific areas where you would like feedback. You do not need to be present for this session. Please allow 24 hours for your submission to be reviewed, and plan accordingly.

Math Lab

The Math Lab offers FREE tutoring for students enrolled in any course with a math component at Lee College. Whether you are taking college algebra, calculus, physics, chemistry, learning a new concept, preparing for an exam, or trying to understand where you became stuck, all students are welcome in the Math Lab.

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a free academic support program designed for courses that students often find challenging. Each SI supported course is paired with an SI Coach, a trained peer who attends class, understands the course expectations, and leads interactive study sessions called SI Sessions in which students will build the knowledge from what they learned in class, practice key concepts and problems, and learn alongside their classmates.

SI Coaches also offer tutoring and one-on-one support outside of class.

How can student join SI session?

• We encourage all students to join any SI session, even if they are not enrolled in the course.
• SI Sessions start on time, so be sure to arrive a few minutes early. Walk-ins are welcome, or you can reserve your spot ahead of time through Penji.

Study Rooms — Booking required on Penji

• Personal Study Rooms: Two personal study rooms are available in the Student Center.
  • Study Room 101.1 & 101.2 (located next to the front entrance of the Student Center.
• Think Tank: A collaborative study room available for groups of four or more students, ideal for group projects and study sessions.
  • Study Room 116.3 (located inside the Learning Hub)
  • NOTE: The Think Tank is a collaborative study space intended for groups. You must have at least a group of 3 students to book this room.

Study Spaces — No Booking Required

• Learning Hub: Features study pods with whiteboards, open study tables, and desktop computers for studying, tutoring, and completing coursework.
  • Family-Friendly Room (116.1): Includes three desktop computers and a children’s play area for student parents and caregivers. Location: Inside Learning Hub
• Math Lab: Offers study spaces with computer access, comfortable seating areas with couches, and whiteboards to work on math.
• Writing Center: Offers a comfortable, quiet space to write, study with tables and couches for both focused work and conversation.

1. Do tutoring services cost anything?
   No. All Learning Support Services are FREE for currently enrolled Lee College students.
   
   
2. Do I need an booking?
   While bookings are generally recommended, students are welcome to walk-in during tutors walk-in schedule. Please check Penji to see the updated Tutor Schedules.
   
   
3. What should I bring to a tutoring session?
   Get the most out of your tutoring session by coming prepared to participate, ask questions, and explore ideas with your tutor. The more engaged you are, the more productive your session will be. We encourage students to bring:
   
   
   1. A positive attitude and willingness to learn!
   2. Specific questions about course material, assignments, or study strategies
   3. Class notes, textbooks, syllabi, example problems, study guides, or other course materials
   4. Drafts of papers, lab reports, projects, or assignments on which you would like feedback
      
      Remember, tutoring is a collaborative active learning experience. Come ready to engage, practice skills, and work through challenges with your tutor.
