Motion passes unanimously.

II. Officer Reports

1. CAAC Chair: Joe Ganakos
We know that PeopleSoft has its functional support life extended for 10 approximate years from this date, whether the campus migrates before that, which I assume they will. That means that the curriculum maintenance system is going to be able to stay in place for as long as we want, as long as the campus has it. I do believe it’s time to go ahead and make some changes to streamline the system, so I will be trying to get together with a consultant. They are not using house programming for this, but we will be using an external consultant to make a few tweaks to the system. I will work with Alex when his schedule lightens up to write some documentation that is updated to reflect those changes. In addition, as we move towards a new platform we will be setting the stage for what we need from a curriculum maintenance piece. If anyone wants to be part of that process, you are certainly welcome to volunteer.

2. CAAC Vice-Chair: Samantha Johnson
Nothing to share.

5. Director of Counseling: Sarah Tidwell
Thank you to all of those who volunteered to help us during registration events during August. My team and Advising were very appreciative for those of you who set up tables and greeted students. So, thank you very much for making that a more pleasant experience for our students and for supporting the Advising Counseling Team. Registration for Spring should be starting in a little over a month. So get excited! Lets get some classes filled.

6. Academic Honesty Committee: Paul Arrigo
Not present.

IV. Old Business

1. Davoud Khoini
i. Replace Course: TECM 1349 to TECM 1301 (1764) – NEED DOCUMENTATION
ii. Replace Course: IEIR 1302 to ELPT 1411 (1765) – NEED DOCUMENTATION

The necessary documents have not been uploaded into the system along with some other tasks that need to be completed. So, I’m going to leave these two items on the table for old business for the next couple of meetings. I have met with Davoud once, but will have a second meeting to see if I can help spur things along. There are some serious concerns about his proposal, especially related to mathematics.

V. Informational Items – New Business

No Informational Items.

VI. New Business

1. Sarah Tidwell
i. Miscellaneous: Update to Academic Probation Terminology (1770)

I am making a simple request. There was an article in Inside Higher Ed, I believe the April 22nd edition, that discussed the unintended consequences of having academic probation, rather that academic standing, and just making some simple changes in the wording that may benefit students. To motivate them to keep coming, rather than hearing something very negative such as the word probation.

This request is asking to have the wording changed in the catalog where it states academic warning, probation to be changed to academic status. And, to change academic warning to academic notice; change academic probation to academic warning.

Karen Guthmiller made motion; seconded by Samantha Johnson.

Motion passes unanimously.

VII. Open Forum

Mendoza Debate Society is hosting the annual Mendoza Debates for the first time since the Pandemic. We will be in the ATC building all weekend. I have not confirmed if the Mendoza family will be able to come and present the Dan Mendoza Award.
Lee College is hosting the Texas Rice Festival welding competition program which is put on by the Texas High School Welding Series. We will have 518 high school students registered that will be bused in all day long.

Next Thursday night we have our kickoff for the Performing Arts Center season. It begins at 7 o’clock and is free to attended.
